On 1 September 2025, His Holiness Mar Awa III, Catholicos-Patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East received Consul General Tivadar Takács in audience. His Holiness thanked Hungary for its continuous for the Christian communities in the Middle East, including the Assyrian Church of the East.
During the meeting, they discussed the wide range of issues affecting the situation of Christians living in the Kurdistan Region and the wider Iraq. They also reviewed Hungary's ongoing programs aimed at strengthening the Christian presence in Iraq.
